Review of 'The Blessings Of Unity God's best for our Marriages' by Richard T.Case plus GIVEAWAY

Richard and his wife have been doing marriage retreats for over 14 years and have seen the increase in divorce in Christian marriages.  In the introduction they begin with this and point out several causes for this increasing divorce rate - which make a lot of sense.  Their findings were that there are two keys to successful marriages which are:
1. Abiding in the Vine and walking in the Spirit
2. Learning the concept of unity from a Biblical perspective.
These keys are what this book is built upon.

The Contents are:
Introduction
1. Evaluation of your marriage
2. Division and Discord
3. Unity
4. The Keys to Unity
5. Unity Comes through abiding in the Word
6. How to handle disagreements and differences of opinion
7. Praying through to unity
8. Biblical examples of unity
9. Psalm 133 - There the Lord Commands Blessings.

He discusses in the first chapter how division and discord are both detestable to God and should be to us also. They are caused primary by self-centeredness and living in the flesh.  In the next chapter he talks about how this unity we need is not just between our spouse and us but rather, us, our spouse and God.

"We are to have affection toward one another as we seek each other's best interests through seeking God's will together. His wonderful will is known through reaching unity" p 36

"It is important for us to create safe environments for our spouses to communicate, talk and share their views especially when they disagree with ours.  This is important because that is how God will use the process to bring us to unity." p 45

Richard talks about the importance of abiding in the Word - spending time to hear from God and really dwell on it, journalling, pondering etc.  On pages 68 - 70 he provides some great starters that would be helpful to really get you thinking about what you have read in the Bible and ways you can practically ABIDE in God's word.

"Coming to unity in not a matter of working through facts and logic.  Rather it is coming to unity and oneness with the Holy Spirit. This requires abiding" p70. Both spouses need to have a personal walk with God.

After the scripture Rom 12:9-21 Richard states "God shows us something else important about conflict - that we are called to be at peace with everyone - AS FAR AS IT DEPENDS ON US - which means we are always to be in forgiveness and ready to reconcile our differences with respect and honor - with the purpose of reaching peace with everyone"

The above is just a taste of this book.  I've not read another book like this one.  Richard has so much
Biblical insight into unity in this small book - it really is a treasure and something to really chew on.  The Bible says that where unity is, there is blessing. Often we think of unity on a wider scale rather than bringing it right down to our marriages. And the best bit is this pleases God and He rewards our efforts.

I would definitely recommend this book! It's easy to read in one sitting and great Biblical teaching. Enjoy!

About the book:
The Blessings of Unity offers insight and ideas for creating godly unity in our marriages centered around two key concepts:
1) Abiding in the Vine and walking in the Spirit, and
2) Learning and applying the concept of unity.
Unity is achieved when a man and woman strive for agreement with God by processing His Will on every decision and in every issue. Through Biblically-centered discussions of discord, division, unity, discipleship, and prayer, and through exploring Biblical examples of unity, Richard Case offers husbands and wives practical and spiritual advice for working together in unity in the Spirit so that they can more perfectly present themselves to God for his divine approval.
